What to know
How it is performed
Upper-eyelid incisions are usually placed in the natural crease. Lower-eyelid treatment may use an incision below the lashes or inside the eyelid. Depending on the concern, fat is repositioned or reduced and selected excess skin is addressed.
Who may consider a consultation?
People concerned about upper-lid skin or lower-lid bags can seek assessment. Visual obstruction, eye disease, dry eyes or previous eye surgery should be discussed; some concerns need a different treatment.
Recovery & follow-up
Swelling, bruising and temporary irritation can occur. Follow the team’s eye-care and incision instructions, and ask when contact lenses, makeup, work and exercise can be resumed. Healing differs between upper and lower surgery.
Risks & considerations
Discuss dry eyes, eyelid-position changes, asymmetry, difficulty closing the eyes, scarring and rare serious eye complications.
Questions to bring to your consultation
Discuss eyelid skin, puffiness, dryness and previous eye treatment. Ask whether eyelid surgery, brow treatment or another approach best addresses your concern.
