Reconstructive care after facial injury or for other structural concerns is tailored to the tissues and functions involved. Soft-tissue injury, a facial fracture and a congenital condition have different needs. Assessment identifies both the immediate problem and any longer-term reconstructive priorities.

What to know

How it is performed

Imaging and examination guide treatment. Options may include soft-tissue repair, fracture treatment, grafts, flaps or staged reconstruction. The plan explains which structures are affected and whether other specialties need to be involved.

Who may consider a consultation?

People with a previous injury, tissue defect or reconstructive concern can discuss assessment. New injuries, worsening symptoms or functional difficulties may need prompt medical evaluation rather than an elective cosmetic enquiry.

Recovery & follow-up

Wound care, diet, activity limits and rehabilitation depend on the repair. Follow-up evaluates healing and function, with further stages considered where necessary.

Risks & considerations

Discuss infection, scarring, altered sensation, persistent asymmetry, functional limitations and the need for further reconstruction.

Questions to bring to your consultation

Share the original diagnosis, previous treatment and current concerns. Ask which specialists are needed and what functional and aesthetic changes may be possible.
